ROADS + TRAILS

Picture
Phoenix-Scottsdale-Tempe, AZ (2014)
I nerd-out on long-distance running. I've run several marathons and half-marathons, each in a different state. I use running as an opportunity to explore the social and physical composition of neighborhoods. The sport is also a reason to learn from parallel and divergent histories of cities. More recently, I've become interested in how public officials and running companies market cities and towns during long-distance running events.

I approach bicycling in the same way. In 2014, I participated in AIDS/LifeCycle, a 7-day bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise money and awareness in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
